Everyone knows about the dangers of having a driver under the influence of alcohol or drugs on the road but how many of us have heard of other dangers involving drivers being drowsy. Recently, Richard Berman, President of Berman and Company, recently wrote an article for The Washington Times on just such a topic. “Drowsy Driving: The Other Hazard“, was published on December 19th and focuses on other dangers drivers face when driving the roadways.
“You need not fall asleep at the wheel to create a hazard (although one in 10 Americans admit to having dozed off while driving in the past year). Getting just one less hour of shut-eye than usual impairs a driver enough to affect reaction time and decision-making processes. With the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) estimating 35 percent of American adults don’t get the recommended seven hours of sleep, that translates to tens of millions of sleep-impaired drivers on the road.” Berman writes in his article.
This is a topic Mr. Berman believes citizens need to be focusing on more as a community. Building a better community for everyone by making it a safer environment helps each individual in that community. By bringing awareness to this topic, people like Mr. Berman and you can help change the conversation being had by our political leaders on not only a federal level but a municipal level as well.
